Antis was not originally a nightclub. Around 1987, architects, artists, actors, musicians, photographers and other creatives began gathering at the café inside the Kaunas Architects’ House.

The name Antis was no coincidence. It was connected to the legendary band of the same name, formed by architects after Algirdas Kaušpėdas, then head of the Architects’ House, brought them together for a New Year’s Eve party. By 1989, the original Antis was enjoying its golden age: “the entire artistic intelligentsia of Kaunas” gathered here, and a similar atmosphere could be found in only a handful of places in Lithuania.

Then came the 1990s. New Year’s Eve events, chamber music evenings and rock performances began attracting smaller audiences. In 1997, the AntiS café-club opened its doors in this underground space in Kaunas Old Town. Young people who had already tasted rave culture at Pakalnė and Trestas migrated here. The soundtrack consisted of house, techno and other dance music of the time.

Unlike the early underground raves, AntiS offered parties on a more regular basis – at first, they took place... every day. This legendary Vilniaus Street venue helped electronic music reach a wider audience in Kaunas and became an important space where young DJs could test their skills in front of a crowd. Among those making their debuts at the time were the now-legendary Partyzanai.
