The Kultūros Dirbtuvė (KD) team is united by a MISSION to reveal and empower the biocultural uniqueness of places, fostering people's curiosity and inspiring them to take action to (re)create conditions for the flourishing of living systems in urbanized areas.

Through their work, the KD team actively contributes to the creation and restoration of sustainable cities and communities.

Rūta Lukošiūnaitė

Rūta Lukošiūnaitė – a transdisciplinary creator, researcher, process designer, and facilitator working at the intersection of art, urbanism, and sustainability science. Her work explores urbanized ecosystems, gardening culture, and the role of collective imagination in the context of climate change. Rūta is a co-founder of the initiative Šilainiai Gardens (since 2018) and the non-profit NGO Culture Workshop (original name in Lithuanian Kultūros dirbtuvė) (since 2021), where she develops regenerative placemaking projects. She creates multilayered visual narratives, engages residents in citymaking, and interweaves artistic practice with research in order to activate learning processes and reveal the unique potential embedded in every place.

Evelina Šimkutė

Evelina Šimkutė is an artist and cultural producer working with socially engaged art and creative placemaking practices. Since 2015, Evelina has led the "Šilainiai Project" — a creative platform in the Šilainiai district of Kaunas, focused on active engagement with the place and local community through various creative processes, including shared archives, creative workshops, artist residencies, conversations, and events.

POPup 2025 Edible City

POPup 2025 Edible City is a six-month co-creation process centered around the theme “Edible City,” during which we will form a network of curious people that we hope will be the first step towards building a long-term community in Kaunas. Across seven POPup meetings, we aim to unravel this theme from diverse perspectives. The process began on April 6 with the traditional volunteer work day of the “Šilainiai Gardens” initiative at Fort VIII.
