Valentina Parati (1996, Bergamo) is an Italian film director and screenwriter working across fiction and hybrid cinema. She holds an MA in Cinema from ECAL / HEAD Genève. Her practice explores the intersection between mechanical and human systems, focusing on the invisible forces shaping identity. Her current research focuses on the family as the first system of power, exploring how intimacy can become a site of control and abuse. Sound plays a central role in her work, often transforming machines into emotional organisms and mechanical orchestras into ritual devices.
Her films have been presented at Queer Lisboa, Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur, NIFF, Festival Aux Courts, and the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Market, and exhibited at CAC Genève, Weiss Falk, Ciaccia Levi, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Istituto Svizzero, Mousse Magazine, and Flash Art. She has collaborated with ZKM, ECAL, and Akademie der Künste, directing commissioned documentary films. She teaches film at architecture and design schools and has been a guest lecturer at the AA School (London), Film Arche (Berlin).
